    The Projects

    1. FLAT PLATE SOLAR COLLECTORS

    Solar Collector Test Stand

Flat plate solar collectors that is used in water heating are widely used and commercially available in Turkey. A computer aided test stand has been installed in EIE in order to canalize the manufacturers to the more qualified and efficient production. The tests of the collectors sent by Turkish Standard Institute are also performed on this stand.

    Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors

A 200 lt system was installed by 20 evacuated tubes. The system has 2 m2 absorban ares. The efficiency and the option of using in space heating and cooling are investigated.

    2. PHOTOVOLTAIC PROJECTS

    PV Lighting Units

5 PV lighting units are installed. A unit comprises 2 PV polycrystallin PV modules (total peak power is 96 Wp), a 65 Ah-12 V battery, a 20 W PLC lamp as load, a 100 VA 12VDC / 220VAC sine wave invertor and a charge regulator.

    Photovoltaic Pumping Units

This 616 Wp photovoltaic pumping system can be used in small scale irrigation. System consists of a submersible pump, and an invertor. The system can pump 11000 m3 water from a 7 m. depth well and can compete economically with diesel pumps where there is no grid connection.

    Mobil PV

Mobil PV produces AC electricity from solar energy. PV modules, batteries and the invertor are mounted on a trailer. System consists of 12 polycrystallin PV modules (totally 576 W), a 48 VDC/220 VAC invertor, charge controller and a battery group of 48V-65 Ah.

    Photovoltaic Traffic Warning System

The system is designed for use in traffic warning signalling. A 48 Wp PV module powers the rotating warning lamp.

    Grid Connected PV System

A 3.8 kW grid connected system will be constructed and the operational properties and the problems will be investigated.

    3. SOLAR ENERGY DATA ACQUISITION STATIONS

In order to measure the energy purposed solar energy potential, five data acquisition systems were installed in Antalya, Izmir, Ankara, Aydın, Adana and Isparta cities. The total and diffuse solar radiation on the horizontal surface, sunshine duration and ambient temperature are measured in the stations.

    Solar Radiation Data

According to the EIE's calculations using State Meteorological Organization's historical records, the total sunshine duration of Turkey is 2640 hours and the annual solar radiation intensity is 3.6 kWh/m2-day.

As for the new data, the solar energy data in hourly, daily and mothly basis from the new acquisition staitons can be obtained from EIE.
