INTERNATIONAL
PROJECTS
Cooperation
with JICA-II (2000-2005)
To establish a new training center with a model plant for energy conservation,
a new project between NECC and JICA started in August 2000. In the scope
of this project the Training Center opened in 2001. As a result, it is
planned that within 5 years period most of the Energy Managers will be
trained. The effect of this program is expected in 10% increase in energy
efficiency throughout Turkish industry by 2010. As indicated in the National
Report with the studies of NECC industrial energy conservation potential
has been defined as 23%.
Furthermore the function of EIE/NECC is strengthened in the training,
audit, policy and promotion activities.
As a result the project will ultimately contribute to economic and social
development of the Republic of Turkey.
During development of these scenarios Turkish Working Group needs to get
technical assistance from the experienced countries.
Cooperation
with JICA-I (1995-1996)
NECC carried out a project on 'Rational Use of Energy in Turkish Industry'
in cooperation with JICA. In the scope of this project started in November
1995, energy saving measures to be envisaged for selected 5 plants have
also be expanded to the other similar plants of small and medium size
industry as policy development studies on rational use of energy in Turkish
industry.
From February 1995 Japanese experts assigned by JICA have been working
with NECC team on energy conservation.
World Bank Project II (1988-1991)
Within the scope of a Loan Agreement signed between the Turkish Government
and the World Bank, EIE has started a third program on Energy Conservation
in August 1988 and completed it in January 1991.
EIE has established its own energy conservation team which has been trained
and equipped with recent technology in the scope of this project. After
this project EIE/NECC started their activities such as energy bus program,
training bus program, policiy studies ect.
World Bank Project I (1982-1984)
The second energy conservation project financed by the World Bank was
implemented under the coordination of EIE between 1982 and 1984. The aim
of this project was to identify potential savings in selected 11 plants
from five major energy intensive industrial sectors. These are the Iron
and Steel, Glass, Pulp and Paper, Textile sectors and a Thermal Power
Plant. 183 recommendations for improvements of energy efficiency were
identified. Most of the short term measures were implemented. The program
also covered the training of Turkish personnel to implement similar future
studies.
Cooperation
with UNIDO: (1980)
The
first project on energy conservation in Turkish industry was carried out
in 1980, in cooperation with UNIDO. Energy audits were conducted in Iron
and Steel, Glass, Aluminum and Textile Sectors. It was identified that
approximately 247 000 TOE/year energy saving potential was available at
that time.
